So I had a wild male coming in this month for $50 but found some 2" f1's locally for $10.99. Anybody ever heard of this variant of grammode or is it just a fancy name? I'd rather hand pick them myself than get some random wild fish that probably won't do as well in waters as a f1 anyways. Anybody know anything or have some pictures? I haven't seen them in person yet and debating wether or not to make a hour long trip to go check them out.

i haven't heard of them sounds like a fancy name to me like royal green terror

Not sure because its a good fish store and its not like you have to sell me on a grammode with a fancy name anyway, I'll buy him either way.

Common name - you won't find unique strains in an LFS that uses common names for one - aside from that, though, most new species are still undescribed and go by sp. "whatever".

imo id go with the WC if u dont wanna wait about 2 years for it to get big. but if u have the patience to grow out the F1's like im doing with my F1's then id go with them if i were u.

also "mexican flag cichlid" is a common name for nandopsis grammodes although ive never heard them called that ive read about it a few times on the net, they are the same thing man just the common name.

I'd rather get 5 of them and grow them out. Like I said, I know f1's will do better in my water, I have more space for smaller fish right now, and out of 5 I will most likely end up with at least 1-2 that I really like, if I lose one not a big problem, and I could/should end up with a breeding pair. I just want to know how many I could grow out in a 55gallon at 2"? 5 should be fine right? If I have a problem I have a ton of smaller tanks lying around and its not like they will be outgrowing them in a week. Also, are they easily sexed at this size? I am probably just going to pick out the 2 biggest ones, the 2 smallest, and pick a random one for its appearance. I should be able to haggle down the owner to 5/$50.

A Mexican Flag Cichild is just your standard Grammodes.....

A Great Fish!

ok, yeh 5 will be fine in a 55G im growing out 8 1-2" F1 in a 55G. they are ok for sexing as long as they are settled in and happy other wise its anybody's guess. do you know how to sex them??
