Mexican flag grammode?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never heard of variants of grammodes. The Mexican Flag Cichlid is a common name for the grammodes as well as "Sieve" cichlid.

thanks guys and no mbuna, I do not know how to sex grammodes. To be honest I've never ever seen one in person. Taking basic cichlid properties, I'm guessing it won't be incredibly difficult, but if theres a easy rule or two to follow, please fill me in.

Males have reddish/pink spots below the lateral line. Females have blue scales surrounded by color below their lateral line.

is it safe to say females usually have a darker/thicker lateral line?

The black on the females is coloration, not the lateral line. The lateral line is a series of sensory pores along the head and sides of fish and some amphibians by which water currents, vibrations, and pressure changes are detected.

I know what the lateral line is I just wasn't sure what to call the dark bar going down their side. From what I've seen the females line is always darker.

Ok cool I would have thought so but just making sure. My male will seldomly get that black blotchy coloration down it's side. The female has it all the time.
