MFK Meet: Seattle Summer '11!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
damn, my galls good lol

Forgot to put on my $.02 on which shops to visit.

-Pet Pourri in Everett is fantastic.

-Bridges Pets in Snohomish is a great store.

-Big Fish Aquatics in Marysville is a good little shop but it is very small. The owner is a great guy and can get you some amazing deals on hard to find fish.

I can't think of anywhere else right off the top of my head.

kay well not sure what everyone is planning on doing or what they want to do so i put together a little game plan. These are just the stores that I personally would recommend going to so if you have a problem or want to add a stop let me or WyldFya know!

Okay so first we can meet at my house at 10am I guess was the time we came up with. We can gather chat wait for maybe an hour or 2 to see who all is going to show up and get a rough estimate of people.

**Food: I'm not sure if anyone wants to go a potlach style or I can just pick up Some burgers and dogs at the store and we can grill them up. That is something we should think about though.

So after we all meet up and see who all is attending we can sort out carpools (my boyfriend can fit 7 passengers in his truck and I can fit 3 in my car)

1st I would say head south to Renton to see Sierra fish and pet they have more cichlids and smaller fish not that interesting in my opinion but its only about 10 min from my house so we might as well.

2nd We can head over I90 bridge and hit china town. We can park on King street and meet up and head to King discus. Lots of flowerhorns, exotic fish and he is just getting into saltwater if anyone is interesed.

3rd Walk about 2 blocks to Liams fish store. (Really gross IMO in an alley way but it is right there so we might as well see) You can occasionally find something cool for DIRT cheap because he doesn't even realize what it is.

4th continue walking about 3 more blocks and hit QT aquarium. (IMO the best selection and variety of exotics. Rays, datnoids, polypterus, etc) But very over priced.

**there are places to eat (if you dare) all over china town if you want to get lunch or a snack or something!

5th Get back on the freeway and head about 15 miles over to White center and visit aquarist world. (Kevin @ King discus' brother) Big store with lots and lots of tanks. Can feed the big arapimas and see the nice display tanks. Lots of cichlids and exoits

**My favorite store EZ aquarium just got shut down wich was right down the road im assuming for illegal fish because they always had them. Cool to see but they're paying the price now!

6th Get back on the freeway and go about 30miles to Everett to Pet pourii. They have quite a few fish and we have gotten pretty close to the owner and his son. We told them about the meet and they said if anyone is looking for anything in particular that we can request they get it in intime for the meet!

So afterwards we can come back to my place, BBQ, do whatever!

Okay, so what do you all think? I think those are the stores that are worthwhile to go to. Yes, I know there are others but most are atleast 45 min to an hour drive. If thats okay with everyone then go for it! But this is just a rough plan!

EDIT I forgot one of my favorites. In between stop number 5 and 6 on our way to Pet Pourii we can stop at Little Amazon on Aurora. IMO lots of cool fish although I haven't been there in a while. BUT pretty over priced for my taste!

If we leave your house at 11:00, I'm thinking we cut it down to 4-5 of the most choice shops. I will put up a poll for the shops, and the top is what we hit.

Okay that works for me, I was just putting the list like that so it was in order of location to where my house is. So we could make one big loop around the seattle area and end back up by my house.

With the order that I suggested I'm guessing it would take 3 hours or so to go check out all of the stores

Actually, if someone has the time, please post a poll with all the shops listed in this thread, and if anyone included a description of the shops, please include that as well.

Anybody carpooling?
I live in tacoma, so I could easily bus it out to seattle, but somebody just broke my favorite effin' board, so I can't skate across town like I was planning to..
Could pitch in on gas or cook some amazing food.

What's the best store in Seattle for American cichlids?

A Place for Pets in Burien hands down for Centrals and South Americans. Of course, you Portland guys are spoiled becuase of The Wet Spot ... but in addition to ordering from there, APFP also does Conkel orders and occasionally Rapps orders as well. For new world cichlids, it's the top in WA.

Bahamaqt how could you forget A Place For Pets in Burien. Kevin the owner there has already begun to prepare for this. He asked me 2 weeks ago what day the meet is. He is stoked and excited. Also said that he wants to take pictures of all. We have to squeeze him in to the itinerary.
