at present the top is covered. its made of 10mm thick glass so its heavy for them at the moment, may be i will add more weight when they grow up a little more.but they havent jumped at all in these 3 weeks. that might be so painful to lose a fish that big. so sorry to hear that
thats all you need for now..... mine never jumped infront of me either.. they do it out of the blue... and when they do it... they do it big time... right through glass etc.. in the wild they jump for insects and small birds.. so i think it is in them to do this sometimes..just a built in part of their character.... they can be sneaky about it..like you don't have to worry about them ..and then bing ..come sailing out even during a water change..mine that i have now..did that.. but lucky he was okay and i put the big old guy back and he was okay except for knocking a couple of scales off... more arowanas pass away from this then anything else... so i warn everyone when i can... :D

thank you

To always be safe tape the lid down for now.. or just lay something heavy{that won't fall off on top}you don't need more then that for now.. and no little holes left open.. they will find that little hole sure as i am sitting here.. tape them.... as they get bigger the weight will have to be increased.. i use a 2x4 by 6 feet of wood so it goes the lenght of the tank.. for my big guy..h may hit the top and get a bloody smashed face..but i won't find him dried out like a prune on the floor.. you may never have a problem... i am not trying to scare you or make you think it is always happening.. it happens rarely... but when it happens it is deadly if your not there.. so thats why it is best to take no chances.. mine is 7 years old.. he is probably the oldest on MFK, they have a life span of 50 years plus.. so something is wrong that they are not surviving.. 99% of the time it is because they jump... :(

i will take all necessary steps to make sure they dont have any space left.i am actually planning to make a new lid with a hole space jus big enough for the filter pipes and no other holes. i never knew they had a life span of 50 plus years:WHOA:. i havent come across anyone so far with an aro more than 15 years so i never knew they could live that long.amazing

there are all kinds of numbers out there if you google the life span.. etc.. but in my asian arow book as well as this article on the asian arow... it says Arowana, also known in Asia as dragon fish, is an expensive ornamental creature believed to have survived from the Jurassic period. Some species can grow up to 128 centimeters (48 inches) and have a life span of up to 50 years.

I love shareing my Aro's with the world! I only wish more captive ones could live alittle more like mine. I'm not knockin any one, I'm just saying that this should lead as an example of a fair environment. Atleast my four seem to think so.
