My thoughts are if you want to name call, bash not be family friendly and post 18+content there are plenty of other non/less restrictive forums to do so, it is not needed on a lounge on a fish forum. You don't need a fish forum or the lounge of one to pursue these activities.
We follow the rules we are given. Family friendly was something we were asked to add a long long time ago by the site owner and mutually agreed upon by staff. Family-friendly also is not just for the benefit of the kids on the site or those adults who view the site with their children it is also for those adults who view the site at work and could get into trouble if content on this site is posted that is not work friendly (if someone is viewing a FISH forum at work they should not have to worry about these kinds of things and I know many many many of our members do view the site at work). There is more to family-friendly then just the little kids that have accounts on the website.
Which I also agree that the youngsters can be just as smart or just as much of a problem on the site as the adults. The rules have not changed much, while some rules may have to be added to deal with situations that arise that are not foreseeable to deal with a situation that in its own right does violate the TOS. If more rules are added its due to the fact that people do not follow the TOS, push the limits and ultimately ruin it for everyone (and not this is not a personal attack on anyone so don't take it that way). As for inconsistency with modding, it's hard to be consistent all at once. With the amount of mods compared to those of members we are not going to see every members avatar. On that note not every mod can even change every members avatars, only certain mods can so until they come online it can't be dealt with. Most of what we do moderate is through what we see when forum browsing and what is reported.
The reported feature allows us to deal with issues more promptly. If you see something and know its a TOS violation report it and it will be dealt with accordingly. As for mods who deal with members and how that is done - each of us has our own modding style and most of us are only limited to certain sectinos. Someone who posts only in Ancient fish/Marine/Other Monsterfish etc. is not going to be dealt with by me but by another mod with another style. Just as if someone posts in Cichlids/Bottom Dwellers/ Gen Aquaria/Loung etc. then they may deal with me or one of the other mods who looks over this area - each with our own style as we are not the same people. Also you may see a lot of the same mods dealing with issues - they are probably on more then other mods are - I am not on as often as a lot of the other mods. If you are feeling singled out it might be because you keep doing something you shouldn't be - you have brought the radar upon yourself (note I am still generally speaking here so don't take it as a personal attack). Also not every thing is the same situation and is dealt with different depending upon the situation - there is a lot of behind the scenes work/discussion that goes into this that you all do not see. If anyone does want to see us as the bad guys then so be it but we are just doing what we have been asked to do. I have a sense of humor and I do find some things funny but I also have a job to do.
As for suggestions there is a forum for that so if you want sub forums you post it there and if the staff/site owner likes the idea then it will go under discussion. Monster on this site means a lot of things to everyone it does not only mean Monster fish. Which I should add as a teenager I did adequately house monster fish and support them with my own money no parental help (I also lived at home so I could support the hobby more easily then I can now out on my own many years later) so I can't agree with that. Its the same with my car I had a nice car with money in it - I can't do that anymore. It all really just depends on a person's situation and their level of knowledge on the hobby they are pursing, imo. Looking at what I look at on a regular basis and deal with on this site its more adults then anything and most of it has to deal with the lounge. There are fish forums that tend to have their own issues as well but as said before the lounge seems to outshine the reported post area. I would be perfectly fine it if went bye bye as well. Not having the lounge would allow us to more effectively monitor the issues that are going on in the actual fish forum areas instead of being flooded with lounge problems.
To the post about pictures - I am not sure if that is serious or not but if it is then infractions have nothing to do with photo uploads.
