I wish they would use a swimmer actually in their prime that would make it at least a little more interesting. I'd love to see a Caleb Dressel or a Nathan Adrian but I'm guessing that wouldn't pull as many viewers.

I don't think it is going to make a difference what condition the swimmer is in unless they handicap the shark somehow....which would be corny.
