Headed up to the cabin, wish me luck.....BIG FISH !! Pics and fishing report when i return..:D

The run wasnt in full swing however i managed to catch 1 before a terrible accident happened to me.
The fishing was slow after i caught my first fish so we decided to cast a few more times and go get some lunch. I casted a few times and decided this was my last cast. I casted right in the spot i had been trying to reach all morning(ppl fishing on the other side of the river prevented me from casting all the way across to the sand bar). About 30' from the river bank i hooked a huge king salmon. When i hooked it , it shot like a charging bull, doubled my rod over almost to breaking point and then with a huge jump broke my leaderline. The resulting whip back from my bent over pole sent my 3/4 once weight flying back at me connecting right on my knee cap with a loud CRACK!!! This needless to say, bent me over in pain and put a stop to my fishing for the weekend. I did manage to catch one for my troubles and 2 weeks from now im going back up for another try..

Just for fellow members to know Dont waste your time at tippy dam. Dont plan a trip there Fish somewhere else. Its not just the snagging there. On most northern rivers guys line fish. Its a process by which a sinker is above the line and a yarn fly or other small fly, corkie or wobble glow is above it with a small hook. As the salmon swims up river the line runs through there mouth and they are hooked on the outside of the mouth. If you do plan a trip to the Little Manistee River plan it way ahead of the "run". As you can tell from this guys photos the kings are already dark and had been in the river for weeks ahead of time. When the "run" is on it means there dark. Be the first on the lower river and cast deep thunder stick jrs. You wont be disapointed when a chrome king about rips the rod out of your hand. The real start of the king run is always in August :D. Fish the Pier heads and the lower river. Bring good Pliers all fish will swallow a bait.
