Micro Monsters! Preditory Tank

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok guy's to update you all..

I been looking around for some belonesox for the last 24 hours, I've called a lot of places and had no joy. A lot of people seem to have tried them but found them too hard to keep, as in they require live feeding almost constantly... The females are meant to be super vicious and often eat the males (even when the males are twice their size).

One guy who bred them successfully... Said he managed it by having a tank set up full of breeding guppies, then introduced a few pairs of belonesox so they kinda had food around them whenever they needed it...

I've been told they breed easily and can have up to 200 fry at a time (with the majority surviving) . Because they take so much live feeding this seems to have put so many people off keeping them, talking to UK guys everyone has 'had' them but thought the maintenance and upkeep was too much...

To me this sounds like wimp talk, all great things come at a cost right? I guess that's why these people use regular forums and not MFK, it show's in their mentality lol...

I'm gonna keep looking for some belonesox, if anyone else has any joy locating any, please keep me updated. I'll also update on this post if I have any success.

Good luck finding those guys. They sound vicious and look really cool!!!

those are all some cool options! Are there any fish out there (may not be popular to fish keeping) that are just ridiculasly vicious? Thats what im looking for. I want somthing even I am kind of afraid of!

Purple spotted gudgeon. they sit on the gravel and when a small fish comes by the explode on it, apparently fun to hand feed.

:bump:

Ctenopoma's are awsome ambush predators. depending on tank size, 5-30 is a wide range, but if you went real small, the dwarf puffs would be good, lots of personallity.
a leaf fish would be a nice fish, not alot of movement in the one i had but still a very nice fish to own.
good luck!!

i have been looking for purple spotted gudgeon and belonesox, i have not been able to find either

Since I first learnt of belonesox (on this thread actually...) I instantly fell in love. I've spoken to so many people in so many places... These fish seem to have vanished from the face of the earth....

Not happy at all. :(

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Some guy from Surrey in Uk wanted Belonesox so badly he traveled to "Laguna Peten and the surrounding rivers and Lagunas" and caught some himself and brought them home! Didn't know that was possible/legal!

Anyway he brought 5 back, but 2 died in transit... He's an experienced fish man, so hopefully he'll have them breeding soon! So many people hassling him for fry already... But at least now theres a glimmer of hope!

Exodons. Also, there are plenty of African Cichlids that will give a lot of color, action and agressive behavior. In fact you can keep a few Exodons with them as a dither fish as they will survive, if not like, the hard water and are too quick to get attacked.
