planning to get a small gator gar and grow him out until he's big enough to share a tank with micro. it has tough scales and grows big so they might be good tankmates. any suggestions/ opinions?

pretty sure ive seen it before almost 100% sure that it'll work, might wana introduce the gar when hes a tad bit bigger than the micro, and i hear if you take out the micro and then put the micro and the gar in at once they micro wont be territorial so tehy shouldnt fight

there is always a chance you will come back to find the gar ripped to shreds. if you really like the gar, i'd say don't put it in. micros are best by themselves or in groups of their own kind.

almost 100% sure it will work.. It's a channa micro we're talking about.. you could put it with an armed swat member and you could still not be 100% sure of the outcome.. it CAN ossibly work.. there is a better chance of it working with a less aggressive fish, the gator can be mean as hell to. you either get a (partly) tank mate compatible micro or you don't you are not helped by having another aggressor in the tank.

I'm not trying to be rude but I guess you (chronick) have never kept a micro. They are nothing like "oh my midas/rd/gt is so aggressive and won't let anything liv with him bs"

This; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPGmvemG6fk is what we are taling about.

note I'm not in any way promoting that, I'm disgusted by it. I love channa micro but unless you are willing to devote a 300 gallon + tank to one or having only tankmates that you are willing to lose you should not have one. I strongly recommend them, they are really rewarding as they follow you around the tank, interacting, will recognize different objects/people and will even be petted but there are other snakeheads for those who can't take a one fish tank.

There is a good chance this will work but make sure the micro is slightly bigger than the gar. Contrary to what people believe the micro will be in more danger from the gar.

We should assume that this guy will have a fairly large tank cause hes asking about a channa + a gar... Also, to argue against the savageness of a micro; when you but a 10 inch bass into a tiny tank like that and you should expect that the micro will attack to defend its territory... As long as the micro and the gar are the same size nothing should happen.

mm.. true that.. It was just that I remembered him getting a 500 litre/150 gallon tank.. I did check it and saw he is from the philipines.. guess it isn't that hard getting a pond or something..

yes, I have kept micros successfully.. I was just pointing out the fact that the teeth of micros aren't very forgiving.. I have had micros ripping things bigger than themselves to shreds for no apparent reason..
