mm.. true that.. It was just that I remembered him getting a 500 litre/150 gallon tank.. I did check it and saw he is from the philipines.. guess it isn't that hard getting a pond or something..

yes, I have kept micros successfully.. I was just pointing out the fact that the teeth of micros aren't very forgiving.. I have had micros ripping things bigger than themselves to shreds for no apparent reason..

yeap dudes from the Philippines. its cheap to make a concrete pond here so no problem a bout that.

@biboybaka
hey it could work if you have a 500 Gal tank i think since gars tend to be very large. and if they get in conflict, you should expect serious injury. Gars have large teeth but i don't think their as aggressive, channa has small and sharp teeth but bites like a shark(shaking the prey into pieces). The gar will probably protect itself with its huge teeth, you could end up with both a dead micro and a dead gar if you won't place 'em on large tank/pond.

micros and gars are both awesome :)

cheers

im planning to build a pond. can you give an estimate of how much it would cost to build one big enough to place those monsters? anyway the fish are still small now.

its really up to the micro whether it'll work. suggest = size or larger gar. if micro's already bigger than the gar, it'll be hard to catch up.

Guys, we're talking about a gator gar. I've had this mix before and the micro is in more danger. Make sure that the micro is bigger because the gator gar will get his no matter what, and a micro is more prone to jumping out in an inhospitable environment.

I second that.. I'd a 7" gar with a 3" micro once.. The micro outgrown the gar by 2x in 4 months..

a ton of gator gars + micros. Any thoughts?

OK, so the Gars way outnumbered the micro`s but you could see the micro`s were stressed.
On a one to one situation I wouldn`t like to guess on the outcome of such a mix, but you can safely say that it`s not going to end well!

It would be like putting a bear and a tiger in the same cage. :screwy:

lol'd
but yeah, can't argue with you there, the micros dont look too happy; i still think gator gars + micros would work though as long as the tank/pond is large enough and the fish are an appropriate size

Yeah fair play, but considering the size of both species when fully grown what 80~90cm for the micro and anything from 1~1.5m + for the gar well then we`re talking one hell of a tank!!!

Both these fish are the top predators of their range, and to put them together in my eye`s is wrong. Your just tempting fate. Right from the off it`s going to be kill or be killed.

Wouldn`t a group of each fish in seperate species tanks be challenging enough?

This is just my point of view, but you`ve seen the video and those micro`s didn`t look happy.

micros are a stronger more robust fish compared to a gar of the same size. i think the gar may take a bite at the channa but the channa would come out on top. they have a stronger jaw and deathroll pretty efficiently. the gars back would be broken in two seconds if it came to a fight.
