I`m worried I may be losing my midevil!! yesterday I noticed he was hiding away (very unlike him!) but didn`t think too much of it....today he has been acting really strange, he is just sitting at the bottom and seems to be struggling to breath? his mouth seems kind of half open and he is making very strange laboured gill and mouth movements, also he obviously has no interest in food, all the other residents are acting perfectly normally! any ideas? I have no medication available at this moment apart from whitepot/exernal parasite treatment...and not sure what to even try and treat for???

Do you have a tank you can put it in for starters?

Is he bloated on the belly?

sadly I don`t Miguel, I do have a large poly box I could put him in....but don`t have a spare filter, also no he isn`t bloated, he looks fine outwardly.

Lower the temps, add salt, 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons ( i add more ) and oxygenate the tank.

Could it be the object of agression?

I would also turn lights off and no food at all in tank

the tank is well oxygenated, and I have no salt (other than table) and no aggression....he is the king of the tank, I am just uploading a video to show how he is acting....will link it on here as soon as its uploaded (should be around 5min or so)

He looks quite stressed. Sure that Butti is not harassing him? ( i also think the butti is breathing somewhat heavily ).

Can't you get sw salt? Beter than nothing ( table salt never because it may contain iodine )

definitely no harrasment from the butti, he always gives way to the devil/midas, he completely rules the tank (the devil/mida)....the butti is breathing a bit fast there, but I seem to notice that quite a lot with him on and off, I cant get anything now until tomorrow there is no where open....do you think the fast breathing in the butti a sign of anything? he has always done it sometimes, but has never showed any signs of illness from it....he eats like a champ, and is growing very well.....

I am picking up a cheap tank tomorrow the same size as my current one, I will set that up and move him into there....I will take 50% water from the existing tank and put in the new one, and put the internal filter from the current tank in there, the existing tank should be fine on the external filter on its own as I use the internal filter more for extra circulation anyway, will also get some salt tomorrow, do you think it may be something internal? parasites? would it maybe be an idea to treat with a broad spectrum parasite treatment?...really hope I don`t lose him!!

The butti does not look stressed...

Your plan with the new tank should work, on the assumption your internal filter is cycled....you just have to keep doing small daily wc's...

I think the midas is, above all, stressed. he does not look gravelly ill, imo.

Have you introduced anything new that could have brought parasites, gill flukes, for instance?
