It could have been a combination of a fungal infection as a secondary to a bacterial infection. You could try round with a gram negative antibiotic. This is a tuff one to rid of.
yeah i know it sucks, i dont understand how he could have gotten soooo sick when the rest of my fish are totally healthy... but yeah so what should i treat it with? pencillin? is there an antibiotic that petsmart or something sells that is for gram negative stuff? do you think starting a round of parasite clear will help at all or no?

Tetracycline is pretty common, it should respond to it if it's bacterial. I'm thinking it's a pirmary/secondary situation here and has to be fought on two fronts with a combination of the two meds to kill it off (the infection not the fish).

haha, ok yeah thats what my thoughts were too about it being like a secondary thing brought on by whichever infection came first, but yeah ill definitely go out to petsmart tomorrow after my lab and see what they have (petco here is pretty much hopeless when it comes to medicines) but yeah iv never had to treat anything this serious before so hopefully they will have it, and as long as he keeps acting normal then i know he will be able to pull through if i can just find the right thing to treat it with...

oh and as far as the ich, is it ok to use salt along with the meds or will it react with it?

Ick too! What you got goin on over there girl? IDK about the salt and Tetracycline. Your going to do a big water change anyway so leave the salt out to be on the safe side, win one battle at a time. The eye seems more important than the Ick ATT, just leave the temp up.

yeah i know AHHH its driving me crazy cus its just on him!!! the little jags in the tank aren't showing a single cyst, i think he is just starting to get stressed out, or it could be that there might have been a temp swing on his side of the tank after i added the other divider to separate the jags since the heater is on the other side of the 2nd divider, but yeah ich usually is easy enough to clear up so il just do a big water change, move the heater over to his side and pump up the temp and see if i can find that antibiotic at petsmart...

thanks again for all your help man, i really appreciate it

I feel for you. I am just coming out of a horrible out break and am even thinking about getting rid of my remaining gymno's. No point in keeping them now with just a few females remaining. I think i'll go regular Geo's next time around or scrape the tank all together. I haven't decided yet. I hope you get your fish under control.

So, what's going on?

thanks driftwood, yeah i really hope i am able to get this under control too, so far it is just him that has these symptoms so i don't think it is anything contagious, and i ended up not having any money to go out and get new meds yet, so i went ahead and started treatment with the parasite clear before i left friday and will get the antibiotics (hopefully petsmart has them...) when i get back in town and get paid on Tuesday... (fingers crossed, maybe it will look all better when i get back monday, doubt it but one can hope...)

just updating, i went and got tetracycline today and am going to start the 4-day treatment now, that stuff is frikin expensive man, this fish better make it after all I've spent on meds for him, the crazy things we do to help our fish haha, def not telling my non-fish people friends how much time and money I've spent to cure this one fish, they would think im crazy haha

ok so today is the end of his treatment, i do have enough left for one more day of treatment if needed but im not sure whether it is or not, he does still have some cloudiness towards the bottom of the eye but his appetite is completely back finally and i was wondering if it was possible that it was just actual physical damage left from the infection? ill try doing a water change and then get a pic of it but im thinking that this may be what it is. ive treated for fungus and now with antibiotics and the whiteness that is there is a bit different than how it looked when it was infected. let me know what you guys think
