Midevil? I think hybrid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wonder if he's a red devil X blood parrot?
That would explain the Vieja looking bit of him?

Either way!! Thanks for everyone's comments, Iv never been so pleased with a fish, he tops my oscars and other large cichlids straight away! Think I'll be sticking with Devils in the future! Might go for a pure devil next time I start a set up :-)

Hard to go wrong with them. I just got some devils a couple months ago. I'm very happy with them.

Looks like red devil x mayan or midas x mayan. Which is what I thought it might be at first looking at the picture of yours. Because of the patterns in the dorsal and anal fins it also has a little shimmer on its body the same color as a mayan. Seeing the pictures from the LFS that confirmed that for me. If you say they know it is half red devil then I am pretty certain the other half is mayan for sure.

I have also been thinking that recently with a few pictures I have taken, I'm planning on doing a full thread of his progression, so I will post the link on here for you to look at :-)
Many thanks for commenting

I just bought some hybrids and don't even know what they heck they are. One is fading and looks to be a red Texas but the others look more amph species.

You'll really never get to know until they get massive and even then you can only guess. I've seen a red devil bp mix and a portion looked just normal red devil. So it's even hard to say a Midevil is even a Midevil it can be a mix of even a barred Midas or any amph species.

After a lot of

after a lot of you tubing I have to admit I think I agree with you, his features are so similar to a Mayan I feel almost certain that's the other parent!
I may do a comparative post in the near future but I think Mayan is the likely suspect
Many thanks for that, it's nice to know I can atleast guess his hertitage as the LFS were useless, Iv been back several times and spoke to all the members and not one of them can remember what the breeder said they were other then red devil hybrids. Nice to see they are bothered about what they introducing into the hobbie! (Sighs) but I think he's great all the same, will keep you updated on his progress :-)

I'm glad I could help I see both those species in the same area a lot where I live, it's really cool to see a hybrid between the two.
