Ive seen the term pop up a couple times the past couple of weeks. Is there any concrete info on these? Or are they just runts or underfed or what? A genetic mutation perhaps? I tried searching the forums and couldnt find anything. Any info would be nice

You are referring to a marble motoro that matures at a smaller than "normal" size (8-12") and stays smaller. I'm not sure if it's a different species or collection point, but they exist. Lots of members have them, maybe they'll chime in.

ditto, been noticing to in a few threads on beginner ray keepers, I'm curious on this one.

There is no such thing. Sorry.

There's several in my basement if you'd like to see them in the flesh. ;)

My favorite has been here 4 years. I'm not sure she's 10" across yet. The male I paired with her has put only put on about 1/2" per year over the last 4.

I just sold 2 males yesterday...... They're definetly out there.

Learn something knew everyday. And yes I would like to see them. I may have to make a trip up there to see my tank ;)

Have you had any litters from them? Do the pups stay small as well? Im curious as to why they stay so small. Im sure there would be a decent market for smaller rays for people who cant keep large tanks. I have a male marble that has barely grown an inch the past year which makes me think it might be a mini....

It's thier new home..... lol. After about 5 years they're ready to leave the 125s.

They grew up in a 6x3 footprint and a 300, then eventually a 750. There's big Marbles and little Marbles here. I just didn't see the point in subjecting the midgets to the ogres so I set up a couple 125s for these midgets, but I saw one come within a few inches of touching the front and back the other day so going to a 180 can't hurt.... lol Hoping to need the 125s for pups someday.

We've suspected these "midgets" to exist for a few years. Only cause having them makes you question a lot of things. Best conclusion.... Seems like there's a smaller subspecies/variant/gene whatever, but some just don't keep growing. As this thread shows there's still naysayers.... I say keep one! You will believe! :)

If you research them it seems like they ususally share a similar trait in the perimeter spotting. Small seperate prominant dots ususally as opposed to ajoining, linked, or "fingers" around the perimeter on the larger ones.

I've had a pup born here to a 8.5" wild caught mom that came to me gravid, but he passed a few weeks after being born. Haven't had much luck breeding anything here.

Contact StingrayED. I think he may have some. Not sure if he ships though.
