Midget/ mini marble motoros?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Smaller guys seem to have a really dark base where their perimeter spotting is. Individual dots.

Don't worry, my stories are like my clothes, both have holes in them.
Like I mentioned, Larry's pattern doesn't jive with his claspers, there's always exceptions. But after talking with Richard (Aquaman) it seems like it does hold true most of the time.

Ever seen a chain link Motoro? The orange dots around the perimeter connect, smudge or blur together. From those dots out to the edge of the disc is a mess, but there's usually the lil "llllllll" lines from these dots to where the disc ends. "Fingers" if you will.

Only problem with perimeter patterns is the fact they're so prone to breeding scars that you have to raise them from lil guys to know that what you're looking at isn't scarred pattern.

Here's some more pics....

3 different rays.

:naughty:

i think i unsderstand what your saying alot better now with the help of these pics. thanks :)

as i mentioned earlier though i think the two "types" of marbles pictured are different types and could explain why you have found one type bigger than the other and it may hold true.

that said i beleive i have seen both large and small versions of both these "types" of marble though if im understanding you right, i think aquaman has large and small of the second type currently (although his "mini" male is quite different to most nice marbles ive seen ) and ive had large and small of the first type myself one being about 22" and one i have now thats about the same size as my male.

would be interesting to discuss it more with you though. pm me your email and ill send you some pics and see what you think ;) .

... dont get your hopes up . it will just be pics of rays :D

DB junkie - thanks for the pics, they're very helpful

yargnits - I'm sure many members (including myself) would prefer that you post the pics here rather than in a pm. The more public discussion there is on this topic the more we all learn. Plus, I'm sure we'd all like more pics :)

BTW, I was just in Leeds last week. I totally should have contacted you to see if you wanted to meet up and show off your rays. Maybe next time...

I'd just post the pics here or start a new thread....... Nobody gains if we keep it private. It seems we both already have opinions, and like I said there's always exceptions, I've had plenty of contradicting rays swimming in my own tanks. But it seems there is "norms" with these lil buggers.

I just share what I've seen. Kept a lot of Marbles. Kept other rays as well. I've watched my blackies and yellow rays grow circles around these Marbles so I know I'm not crazy, or stunting my rays. My big Marble could stuff 1/2 lb/ feeding, so I'm by no means saying there aren't big ones.... My big girl was my favorite ray of all I've had.

I was simply trying to point out similarities in some of the Marbles I've raised. Just sharing findings. There is no right or wrong, it's only observations. BUT IF someone else's observations agree then what? Seems that those of us keeping lots of Marbles see similar things, and it's also similar that only the people that haven't kept a lot of Marbles question these things...... All I know is I will continue to try to learn about these things, and hope someday it will make sense.....

DB have you bred many marbles

DB have you bred many marbles

Nope. Just a few. :(

Should have some pups anyday now, as one of the bigger girls has been showing movement for like a month and a half.

Believe me, I've been trying to find out what the issue is but I'm broke and loosing hope.....

First 3 pics are of CB females that are over 4 years old and barely 10". The last pic is a WC male that has been in US for over 2 years, came in with claspers and is only 9".

im not trying to pic holes mate. im just offering observations just as you are. im allways learning and i hope i always will be regardless how how knowledgeable i am or i think i am.
ive kept rays for a long time but i know only a fraction of what i hope to and thats the reason im frequently on here searching for new information.

some years ago i would never have beleived you could keep a ray with a couple of filters made out of old plastic bottles and some porus gravel like stuff but my "stumpy" is doing well in just such an enviroment.

im allways happy to question what im doing and see if it can be updated or improved so please dont think my comments are negative even if they sound it.

you have some nice rays, do you work in a shop ?

the general questions i would ask are :

what do you feed and how often

what filtration do you use

what lighting and how long are your lights on ?

im one of those questioning people but i wont bore you here . thats why i mentioned pm :)

Thank you sir. I do work in a shop, but it's fixing cars, nothing to do with fish.... Fish like rays are actually really hard to come by where I'm at. Only seen rays in shops around here a couple times.

Feedings are usually daily, more on the weekends. Primarely shrimp and talapia, homemade gel food, scallops, different fish fillets.

Filtration is primarely a combo of pot scrubbie wet/dries and submerged ceramic rings, some tanks have ac 110s, a few canisters, the big tank has a pretty good size moving bed filter on it along with submerged rings and wet/dries. Tanks are 125-750 gallon, systems 250-1000 gallons, and 3-7 rays per tank, largest ray about 18".

Lighting is just florescents, tanks with characins have moon lights for night, big tank has halides too. On from 5-12 hours a day....

I've always wondered how much hard water affects rays, maybe they don't grow like they would in a more natural soft water.... But could that affect Marbles without affecting blackies?

Your Marbles are gorgeous Mike!!!!

Seem to just keep getting better......
