Might be throwing in the cichla towel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I actually went through this same thinking a few months ago. With my current setups I only plan on keeping maybe 5 cichla.

Keeping the water pristine is a tough job, especially when water changes are done manually. That's why I have so much respect for the OG's that have stuck with it and have healthy cichla! Even without a huge collection, I expect you to become one of the OG's i'm talkin bout!

the fish are much too beautiful to not keep a few...

Keep a nice pair of fish, I still do not appreciate the tanks with so many fish in it.

Buy a nice pair of dovi, keep them for 10 years...........

Nice to see you starting to understand the hobby, it is not about the work, but appreciating the fish, and sometimes too much WORK takes away from the hobby.

yeah I'll be keeping my favorite two or three, and maybe the best out of the grow outs. I have at least two years with those guys
That sounds like a good plan with your tank space,it seems like you are too dug in to give it up altogether as long as you can still afford to keep them. With a few less fish in your tank you will have a better time keeping up your all important water quality.

bravo

Personally if I was not in process of starting up a fish import/hatchery/petstore I would have maybe 2 tanks and keep them as killer tanks one sw one fw.

Thankfully I have a good system in place for wc and such otherwise no way would I keep as many tanks as I have.

I can applaud the op for what he says in his first post and would recommend cichla keepers who are dismayed at it reread and see the wisdom of his decision

I watched you come in the door and it has been a true pleasure JC. I am glad to hear your going to be keeping the best of your stock just to keep that passion. As for the understanding of it all only you know what is best for you and I applaude you for all that you have shared with us. (trust me if anyone here can relate I am right there with ya) And your still going to be the "Orino King of Cali" to me pimp. :D

Cichla till we die!

As always he is in the house! Was up Reverse? And how are the monsters Dovii doing?

thanks for the kind words folks  there comes the time when you need to "grow up" and do whats best for the fish. I hope my experience has been able to help the guys with all the small cichla. i hope you guys have plans for what you gonna do with all those bass when they become monsters!!!! i was a little naive at first, i thought you could put lots of big fish in a tank and be able to maintain them with big water changes.

but no, its a lot more than that and its not that simple. after doing some thinking, these are the 3 orinos i will be keeping:

and these are the ones ill be selling. ive already offered them privately to a few locals since i wont be shipping these guys. if your in the norcal area and interested, lemme know before i post them up :) LOOKING TO GET RID OF AS A GROUP FOR NOW
