min tank size for Vieja Argentea?

My foot long male needs to be isolated from other argentea (male or female), and any fish over ~6" in a 6' tank. He was ok with other fish only when kept in large tanks (220 and 360 gallons). He will hound them relentlessly till death. Smaller fish he just chases off.

Any tank with more than 12" in depth would be minimal for an adult, solo. Too keep tankmates with them I'd say a 180+, and then you'll just have to mix and match till you find one that works.

I agree, and "relentlessly" is the key word. Had my 8" male in a 220 with a pair of pearsei and a pair of syns. He stalked them relentlessly and....well let's just say it didn't work out.

I can pretty much guarantee it will not work long term with a severum and heckelii.

Comparing juvenile fish aggression to adults just doesn't compare.

I had 2 synspilus & 1 melanurus that were 2.5 inches each...All of them were in my 125 gal with a 12" aro & they tore off his fins & eventually died....1 out of the 3 was tough & fought the other 2...Now they're all divided...

i have one in a 180 with an oscar, 2 green sevs, a mean firemouth and a chocolate. my vieja is about 6 inches long, and he is pretty docile so far. my stock seem to get along quite well after one green sev lost an eye when the oscar put him in his place... since then-about 6 or more months ago, everything has been calm... (fingers crossed)

Was going to forego the Vieja until I read this post. I have a 150G with a mean FM, non-aggressive JD, Salvini, and 9" Oscar. Maybe I'll give the Vieja a try.

My Oscar is typical... very bossy with smaller fish until one of them pushes back... then he goes into wuss mode. Hopefully I get one of the more docile Vieja.
