What do you think i should get instead ?
The one i am wanting is currently about 10inch head to tail . Do you think it will be ok in a 120Gal 4x2x2foot tank for now , until i get the pond up and running, which will be getting done March/ April time next year . Or will he get too big for that size tank in the time of 4/ 5 months ? While i bulid the pond and get it cycled .
Also , would a large pond pump and filter work to filter the Trop' pond ? And what size and how many heaters should i get for the pond ?
4x2x2 would last you a couple/few months or more, some fish will grow faster than others.
Yes any large pump will do but I plan to buy the most efficient one possible as power consumption will jack the bill up quick. I just plan to pump water out of my pond through a 125g tank I have that I am going to use as a filter then it will run back out of the 125g into the pond, simple and easy. I'm just going to fill the 125g with all sorts of media and then drill it out so I can have the water exit through pipes instead of just overflowing over the top edge. Due to room it will actually sit just above the pond. As for heating I plan to just stick 2 250w stealth heaters in my filter and see what that does for temp, it's usually 70* in my house so I only need to heat the water another 10 degrees but the pump will actually heat the water some from my experience as well. Not to mention once the water gets heated up there is so much of it it would take a while to drop back down even without heaters since the big pump will always be running. Now if it were outside or in an unheated room then you may need some bigger heaters.
As for what fish to leave out, well all of them if you want to be safe. It all depends on your cat. It seems some are more tolerant than others and it also depends on how well fed they are, like anything. And as everyone says if it can fit inside the cats mouth, it is possible it could get eaten. Now with that said many people on here keep big cats with other fish but there is always the chance.
Someone had a little story about moving a rather large Oscar into his/her pond with a large Cat and in an instant the Cat took down a large (I think it was 12"?) Oscar in one bite. So you just never know.
