Mini cycle or full cycle?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks :) I made a 50% water change tonight, and also used ammolock again as my water conditioner, my arowana seems to be ok, I've tested the water and it shows nitrate, not sure if from nitrifying bacteria or from my old tank water. will continue to do partial water change and monitor ammonia and nitrite level. hopefully this mini cycle completes soon.
Really wish prime was available here, not sure why nobody imported prime :(

Do you have access to AmQuel? That one is just as good as Prime for binding ammonia, in my opinion.
It used to be available here, but not anymore :(
but i think Ammolock should also work as i've had good experience with it, though it doesn't do anything about nitrite.

According to the info available, what your using is fine.
Not sure why people are still trying to push their favorite water conditioner on you.
I would suggest a testing of your tap water and your testing materials.
A sample of bottled water as a base, since there should be no ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate in it.
Once you have verified the reliability of your testing materials, then test your tap water.
Couldn`t hurt.

thanks :) Really appreciate replies from you guys :) I guess we tend to recommend those products that we have good experience with .

I got 2 kilos of ceramic rings from my other sump, and place it on my tanks floor, not sure if this will help to hasten the cycle?
I've added a wavemaker , so the water flow in my tank is quite good.

Would this work?
I added the ceramic rings into my tank instead of inside the canister?

Treat the tank as a new cycle. For future if you used old media in a new tnak and water parameters are not where they should be in 1-2 days, then start cycling.

The product you using for detoxifying is fine.

Placing the media under your filter inlet will be more efficient but it's still better to have moving water passing directly through it.

thanks I'll get more media from my other sump tanks and direct the wavemaker to the new media.

My Nitrite is now rising fast, i was finally able to get 2 bottles of prime, do i have to dose with prime every 2 days?

Not cycled yet. And I think the old dried out filter media might have been a bad idea. I use Prime sometimes, but from what it looks like Ammolock is about the same thing and + salt you will be fine.
