Mini Generators

i've often thought about this and hbhunters recent loss got me thinking again. does anyone know where to get mini, non gas powered generators? i'm just getting back into the hobby after a break of quite a few years. i could have sworn they use to advertise ones in fish aquarium magazine. i gotta dig out my old ones.

i have a 100kw 3 phase diesel


why not look into a 12vdc to 120vac inverter

run it off lead acid batteries ( marine deep cycle)

keep it charged when you have power........its like a large ups for a computer.

how big a load and for how long do you want it to run ???

I used to know someone that did just that--used a battery backup from a computer system. Ran their largest filter and heaters off of it.

I agree with john.,... i talked to jed after i lost my aro's and he told me to go with a inverter, and some deep cycle marine batteries for a back up... I'll be looking into that myself..

excuse my ignorance but how do you run a non gas powered generator, unless you have a big windmill on top of your house, or bicycle power?

We had a 12K propane whole house generator installed a few years ago. Keeps the fish happy during power outages + well pump for house water. Not a cheap install but seems like power outages are becoming more frequent.

OK, I was thnking "gas" was referring to fuel for an internal combustion engine...
