Mini Tiger Grow Out Progress

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why is starving such small fish common practice? You wouldn't let a newborn child go more than a few hours without food...so why a fish? I started my group of 10 on live blackworms, then moved to frozen bloodworms and krill a few weeks later. Fast forward to today and every single one of mine hit floating pellets with gusto.

Datnoids are voracious eaters by nature. A healthy and well acclimated fish will be hard-pressed to turn down food, especially if its tankmates are getting fat in front of their eyes.

datnoids are easy to pellet train when kept in a large pack. easiest to train when around 1.5-2".

Start them on frozen bloodworms. Thaw out the cube. Dip in a little at a time. Use a spoon or medicine dropper. THis way they attack the little cloud you drop in...not letting bits and pieces fall to the tank bottom. After a few days they should all be eating viciously. Now you should start adding pellets to the mix. Crush them up...add them into your thawed blood worms. Let em soak a few minutes. NOw you have pellets in your bw's:) Feed the same way...a little at a time. This way you can monitor the feeding(making sure they are all gettn pellets). Over time up the amount of pellets while leaving the amount of bw the same. THis allows them to realize the pellets are food. Eventually they will be eating strictly pellets.

Works best/easiest w/ big groups( had a pack of 20 IT's).
Also works best if you never feed them live.
I had small IT's grow over 10in in a year. They were on a massivore diet.

Comparing a new born human to a fish is a flaw in itself.

Feeding blackworms, krill, bloodworms whatever food besides pellets for extended periods of time isn't the best for any young fish. Starving for a couple days shouldn't do any harm to the fish and ultimately it's best for the fish and more convenient for the owner.

LOL keep telling people to starve their <1" datnoids and we'll watch the body count pile up. Let's agree to disagree eh?

I have three mini tigers. One classic 4 bar from anthony, and two three bars from ocean blue.

I took a photo of as many of mine as possible when they were at their smallest and use a reference for size, I usually use my phone, it's almost exactly 4".
