Hey guys I have been searching reptiles and fish on CL and Kijiji and have been seeing so many Free or cheep red ear sliders, coming with their, get this!
10 gallon or even 20 gallon aquariums!!
I have been feeling horrible for them and would love to adopt one but I understand that these are completely too small.

What tank would I be looking at to be able to rescue one of these guys?

Thanks!

20 to 55 gal is enough for a nearly grown RES under minimal conditions. But I have to agree with those who propose 10 gallons per inch for grown, stretched out sliders. I've kept my 25+ year old slider with a community of cooters and a chicken turtle in 250 gallons. They inhabit a 250 gal pond that gets weekly 100% water changes. Better if they were in 500 gallons of filtered water, but I make up for it in the water changes. Hope this helps. Peter

90 by 90 cm ponds/tanks of similar dimension. Height is not that important. You could put two in there...Or if you really want to rescue the whole bunch, just get a pond of size.

I think the standard 120 gallons are a good size for an adult.

Yeah I really don't think i can house these guys, if I can come into a tank then I will get one, but I don't have the money to invest right now in a 120, nore the space to invest in a pond :(

Don't give up hope, look at Craiglist, I found a full 90 Gal set-up on mine for under $100.

diffently a 100+. i had a RES in a 55 by himself and he out grew it. a 55 wasted wide enough for him to turn around. lol he actually cracked the glass one day when he was turning. what a day. lol
