Just got a 150g, dimensions are about L72xW18xH28. Always wanted a ray, wondering if there are any freshwater species that could live in this tank happily and have enough room.

Not going to find any rays that will live in that tank for life. If you start with some 4" pups say motoros from Vamp then you can keep them for 2-3 years in that tank. Just don't buy any rays if you never plan to go bigger.

rays are great! I suggest getting 3-4 pups. + a baby shark (ones that look like a shark!), a red tail catfish maybe a gar a datnoid a black ghost (knifer)! go crazy!

I think they need to take red tail cats off the market. There are probably only a 1000 people in the US that have the ability to keep those monsters. Most people don't plan for the cute little 3 inch cat to get 3 feet in length with a head that is a foot wide:eek:

please tell me your just tolling .. this is one of the dumbest things i have ever seen on here

Gar, RTC, ANY SINGLE RAY, and some dats are all to large for that tank for life .. let alone many of each ...

Not going to do that. Just wanted to see if there was a type of ray that I could house in a 150g and for how long.

As FD said, you could happily house a pup for upto 3 years in this set up but you would need to upgrade in the future. I have a small back ray just less than a year and he's in a 200g tank that is only 24 inches wide. I will need to upgrade in a year at the latest so don't do it unless you know you are going to go bigger.

It would depend on your filtration and waterchange schedule for this tank. If you were to install a wet/dry, a large canister and a drip system, you could probely get a year out of that tank depending on the ray you keep and its growth.

What is the minimum tank size that you could house a ray or to for life?

Hystrix are the way to go cause they stay smaller. Reticulatus stay smaller as well but they are more challenging to get acclimated. You could get by with a 24" wide tank for hystrix if you have a good filtration system. By good I mean high turnover and extra water volume that a sump has to offer. Other ray species you need to go up to a 36" tank for life.
