This is for an out of control debate on another forum. People there are into light stocking to a extreme that is so ridiculous all I can do is laugh at this point. So to all you South and Central American cichlid owners, what is the minimum size tank you would keep a single Oscar in?

Personally? The minimum size I would keep ONE oscar is a 75 gallon. If I wanted anything else, whether it be dither fish or not is a 90 gallon.

I'd agree with 75 for a full grown Oscar. Reason being is the front to back space. Anything smaller isn't gonna give them much room to turn around. If you have a small Oscar you can get away with a smaller tank for alittle while but full grown anything smaller than a 75 is cruel

So if you like the 75 we all agree on, what do you think/what are they saying on your other forum?

75, I prefer a 90 for the height and extra water volume and leaves the option for a common pleco to keep the tank cleaned up tho they are messy with the poop but easily vacuumed up on water change day. they also keep your wood polished and clean.

I'm guessing they are either saying the 29 I have heard by those uneducated individuals that have tried to make me think they are experts, or the 125 of the overly cautious

would 125 be great for an single Oscar? sure. more water volume and space. and water quality be allot easier. but you can comfortably run a JD with him, or some SD. but that's not the question, question is whats is a good tank size for a single oscar, bare min IMHO is a 75, room to rome, water changes not crazy.
