Minimum tank size for JD & GT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a 72g bow with that combo and they are doing fine. Just be creative with the decorations to make some "safe havens" for them and all will be good.

So that's why my brother has a ~55g with JD, 2x GT, 1x RD, 4x Firemouth, 1x Oscar and they are all in perfect condition, and his Oscar won in a local contest.

He's running 2x FX5 and 1 internal UV sterilizer on the tank.

I realise you are only stating a large tank size with all the best of intentions for the fish, but what you are saying now is misleading people, to think bigger is always better.
There is absolutely no aggression in his tank, other from the breeding firemouths, but they don't do any damage.

wow thats alot of big fish in the tank. after doing the math, when all the fish are fully grown that leaves les then an inch between each fish....mmmmm and u said he has 20 years exper. mmmm wow either the tank alot bigger then your saying or it sound like he really dont know how to care for the fish. i feel bad for them.. lol

he has two 2500liters running aswell along with 1 530liter and one 325liter, so it's comepletely purposely that he chose to make that setup in that tank. None of the fish are fullgrown, But they are all adults. I don't know what his plans are for the future, cause he will want to breed some of his fish.

As to the question about the size of the fish, i have no exact measurement since he lives in copenhagen, and i live in far north of the country, so i only visit him once every 6months or so.
But i would shoot the O. to being around 10" now and the jd about 8,5"

I have 8 fish in my 72g and i am planning on getting 200g or better tank . Sure filtration takes care of the crap, but WHAT ABOUT WARS!!! Fish need room or lots of cover.

Size and gender can make all the difference in the world...

Juvenal fish act FAR different than adult fish... So unless/until the fish are full adults, you won't know if or how they get along...

Two males will interact FAR differently than a male and a female, and each of those will interact differently than two females...

If any generalization is to be made, I think it's only fair to "error on the side of caution". Otherwise we need to consider factual details...
