minimum tank size for....

did you actually measure these fishes or just approximate with your eyes? i've seen people say they have foot long fish that only measures up to 7-8" and people that say they have 4" fish that measure 6", it's hard to guesstimate fish length

whenever my brother sees my oscar he says "wow that thing is over a foot long", i say "no i measured he's only 9 inches" and that's TL, he says "are you sure?"...now i just thought of something sick...

maybe i haven't been fortunate enough to see truly large severums, the most i've seen are 6" or 7" TL, that's why i think 8" SL is the max just as most info on severums say

No I don't get to measure the fish with a tape measure because the fish I'm talking about have been in lfs. however, every time I've eyeballed one of my fish and then taken it out for measurement I have always been within 1/2-1" and most of the time when I'm off I underestimate the size instead of overestimating it. the severum that was in the 55 gallon that I was talking about earlier was very close to touching the front and back of the tank when it turned around. :)

that is a very large severum indeed and would need at least a 75 to be comfy as you recommended, i don't doubt you but it would be very nice to see a pic of this fish

also, sorry if i offended anyone in this thread

A 10inch severum swims a lot more then either of the other 2 so I agree a 75 would be cool. A 16inch male midas will probaly just patrol once & awhile. the managuense is in the middle range as far as movement at least from my experiences you can keep other smaller ie archocentrus species & neetropuls species with a cintrinellum in a 90 gal. as mine only seemed to care about fish thier size range but ignored those not considered a threat. In my experience jags. aka manguense always tlk jazz but once the other fish stands up to it they usually leave it alone from that piont on but if the fish flees it will be killed.

Personally I would not put either a Midas or a Jag in anything smaller than a 120. But thats just me.
