X2 no one can ever agree. And they have unrealitstic measurements on rtc half the time. Not saying anyone here on this thread did but they commonly do

OP if you really want a rtc i would say that getting and intex pool would be your best bet, 12' pool should be enough for a rtc, plus all the rtc i've seen dont move around much even in big tanks, now i dont know if thats true for all but IME it is
The bottom line is...no home aquarium will ever duplicate the conditions or size of what almost any fish would experience in its life if it was living in the wild.
Keeping a fish in a home aquarium is an unnatural environment (especially in terms of size)...no home aquarium will ever duplicate a fishes natural environment. Someone could have a 1,000 gallon aquarium for a 4" Convict...and that still wouldn't duplicate the "living space" a 4" Convict would have in the wild.
So all of us should really "get real"...and realize that ALL OF OUR AQUARIUMS are too small for whatever fish's we have!

There is no need per se and no call for an agreement. There is an OP question that solicited our opinions. So we are giving them.
While this is agreeable, we also need to realize that "all or nothing" frame of mind does not work either. There is a clear line between the right (by the humanity/society/professionals point of view) way of keeping a pet and a wrong one. While it is often clear for mammals, birds, etc., it is not as clear for fish, whose signs of suffering are not as easily perceived.
Its not about gal its footprint
They will grow fairly fast up to 24-30" then slow down

I agree with that, you can get a large pool to set up a comfort environment for a RTC, and will not cost too much. I think you like RTC, and want have one as pet, So, I don't advise your mimic a amazon river for it. If a 5000 gal, 10000 gal or even more is only good for RTC, I want say 99 percent of RTC keepers are not qualified to have one.
One of my friends have a nice large RTC for 4 years now, the fish used to live in a 250 gallon, and recently moved to a 650 gals. I cannot say I know how the fish feel, the fish is happy or not. But the fish is healthy.
