hi guys n gals.I have just started to use miracle mud in my sump, and a few people i have spoken to say that i should take off my skimmer,im not sure about this as i've always saw the skimmer as the most important pice of kit' whats your thoughts on this

There has been a Huge debate raging for some time now, about wether to Skim with MM or not to skim. I am on the side of Skimming, always being of the veiw that you cannot Over-skim.

well although i agree with predator 1 i dont agree that you cant over skim.when you skim you remove alotta crap but you also remove micro nutrients, noit a hole lot but they are beneficial. one way to combat this is to run a eco system filtration. basically large fuge packed with calupra, lr , ls, mm, dsb and only use a skimmer rated to half the system volume or run no skimmer. but still i owuld run a skimmer no matter what. in fact my skimmer is rated for 6x my system volume. i still run a dsb, fuge lr and ls.

is there any way of testing all the crap that comes out of the skimmer cup to see whats in it,(good stuff vs bad stuff)??????????

There must be a way to conduct such a test. But I doubt a hobbyist could do it. And as far as I know, even biologists have never tested the "Skimmate". The genneral opinion is, it is mostly unwanted matter, so that is good enough.

well science proves it is unwanted nd tests have been made. imsure if i was to do a tds test it'd get really high readings.

i was talking to a guy who said it is pointless having mm if i am skimming at the same time because it is taking all the trace elements out that the mud is puting in

I did say to you danny that this Topic is the subject of much debate in the hobby. Why not try it with, and without, skimming for a measured time. Then you can compare your readings, and see which method suites your system the best. I cant see any of us reaching a common agreement on this subject. I fear it will only serve to confuse you more.
