skimming does not remove trace elements corals do.skiiming removes micro nutrients. and mm is a waste of tim when you can run dsb!!!!

theres another spanner in the works,,,i used to run a dsb and have just replaced it in favour of mm
 
well for fficient de nitration the deeper the better.if i had he room id do a hell load more then 2' something like 3' or 4' in a 6" diamter pvc pipe
 
skimmer is optional ive seen tank with skimmers and mm and just mm and no difference in water Q or coral health... sell the skimmer for more fish or corals

useing a 6" pipe sounds like a cool idea i think i will give this a try and run it as well as mm,have you got any drawings of how this would work(or pics)

well only to a point, once there is basically no water movement excess depth is superfluous to footprint...

say the minimum depth for 0 water current is a foot
having a 2' deep 6'' PVC would be as good as a 1' 12'' pipe filled with sand
