erys are slow growing, i believe they grow on average .5" a month to about 6 inches then growth from there on is reported to be a lot slower, but they can be girthy, though their mouths aren't like other wolves they can definitely fit a slender fish in. other species i wouldn't recommend cause the reasons DB stated

Can get away with scombs but not the tats.

Ery ery can be housed but will need to be smaller and not fed any live foods. They are slow growers as well.

I'm having trouble thinking of other smaller bottom dwelling characins lol, does it have to be characins? Maybe some bichirs or catfish instead?

I would love a lima shovelnose or some bichir school actually

Upper jaw bichirs can be kept but not a Lima. Looks great but will likely eat some of ur stock.

Yea smaller upper jaw species, well most of them, only ones I'd say to avoid are ornate, weeksii, and maybe a teugelsi and all the under jaws since these get atleast 20".
