not some...1 and it didnt die from eating pork lol. so not sure where your comment is going. Believe it or not there was no territorial issue in the tank, 6 of them were fine swimming in there for that time, the fish just became sick and passed within a quick time period.

And what do you think it was the cause of sickness?..

My comment is going to things we shouldn't do with our fish and feeding them pork is one of those.

How many times you think I fed em pork , maybe 10 times within 15 months. None of them got sick from eating bits of pork man. Many pygo owners feed their pygos all kinds of meat occasionally.

You didn't mentioned that before though. However I have to insist people shouldn't feed this kind of meat to their P's. Maybe you know and you just feed them 2 or 3 times per year but you didn't mention and some newbie can come around and see you're saying you feed them pork and people might think pork is a good food for fish which of course it´s not.

I fed them a wide range of household meats, a wide variety, but most of the time it was feeders, shrimp, mussels, krill. The chicken, pork, turkey I gave them was once in a while, they ate it right away and never got sick from it. Don't forget these fish eat all kinds of strange meats in the wild.

I have kept mixed pygo's for about 4 years. From tanks as small as 55Gallons to tanks up to 720 Gallons.

I have had 2 pass during this time...

I find I read a lot of people adding fish to an established tank (ie: I have 12 in a tank, then pick up a great deal in the classifieds and add them to the tank also) it's not going to work out very well.

Another thing I find a lot of people do is stress them out a lot. No hiding spaces, lots of lights, not enough water changes.

I have heard of some people getting rid of a certian fish due to it being "territorial" - never run into that with the pygo's I have kept though.

One of my losses was a large Caribe - he seemed to be moving slugish the few days before his death and had a cloudy eye. My thought therefore is that he was weak, and for whatever reason (not able to defend territory, not able to get out of someone's territory quick enough, was the weakest of the pack - thus they got rid of him.... I have no idea, not smart enough to know) So, maybe would be a good idea to keep a 40 gallon tank around so that if one gets sick, you can stick him in there. Does not need to be set up all the time - if you need it, take 30 gallons of water out of the main tank, put it in the 40 gallon, then place a canister/HOB filter on the 40 Gallon - voila - you have a hospital tank set up quickly.

I think with a bit of observation, you can easily keep a mixed shoal.

where have you been hideing!!!!!???

i liked the read and it gave me a little encouragement, thanks plum

I kept Piraya, caribe and reds together for years with no major issues. The main instigator in the pack was actually a 9'' red that was a complete twat and nipped the pirayas eye.
In the main they got on ok and just act like each other mostly. I don;t think you should have any major problems as long as the set up is relevant.

I say much - prefer to read. I do chime in once and a while... I'm no expert, but those are some tips I have learned and seen over the short time I have been doing this.

Yes, pfury I frequent often for piranha reading, over here I read all the DIY's - some very smart people with large set ups over here.

I will post my Pygo tank for you guys also.

I ended up selling the red as it was nuts and the most aggressive piranha i ever owned and i've had quite a few.
My tank ended up with 2 caribe, 2 reds and my piraya who all lived in harmony until i sold them on.
The piraya was not too aggressive at all but this may be due to it being the smallest of the pack at 8'' and the others were 9''+.
