Hey Magpie, beautiful Moke you got. I read your thread, but just have a couple of questions for you or anyone else with some exp w/ Moke.
1. do they hide all day? Or did you get lucky?
2. Difficult to get on sinking pellets, NLS or Massivore?
3. COexist with a large group of clown loaches and other bottom dwellers?

Thx
1. That'll depend on the fish itself. From my experience, they don't really hide but they aren't the most outgoing bichirs.
2. Bichirs in general are easy to get onto sinking pellets.
3. You should be fine with clown loaches and other bottom dweller if it doesn't fit in the mokes mouth.

Thx 4 the reply Hao. These 5" Mokes will be small in my tanks, my morays are 20-24". I just don't need another hiding fish like my Leptobotia Elongata and Chubby Plecos.

I bought one from wet spot like 6 months ago, at first he was so shy. Wouldn't eat in front of me and would swim away if I went near him. 2 months ago he started to seem much more comfortable. He now eats like the other upper jaws I have him with. Just need a little patience

nevermind. found it :] oooo a wild moke too! 5" might be a little big for my little 2 inch wormy.
I think you'd be fine with a 2 incher. My moke is my biggest poly at about 9" and when I got my lap it was 3", no problems whatsoever. They seem to be really laid back in terms of other polys.

888fish 888fish my moke does hide a lot, but not all the time. I've only had him for a couple months and I'm hoping I have the same experience as Blazin. He ONLY eats pellets, I don't think the previous owner fed any meat. You should be totally fine keeping him with other bottom dwellers

My 6" moke hides 99% of the time, charges out when it smells food, grabs one piece and goes and hide until next feeding!

Also mines not green at all, tempted to go back to lfs and swap it for another one that's more out going and maybe a bit of green tint to it.

I have read very mixed opinions on these guys as far as shyness. I think I am more on the lucky side, but I got to pick him out and he was out in front of the tank at the store, which seemed to be some kind of indicator. (I was not actually planning on buying a Moke because of the hit or miss shyness, but he was calling out to me!)

He is also nice and green. That being said, he's still shy in that if someone walks quickly past the tank or if I get up on him too fast with my phone camera, he'll dart off. But he's not been in the tank long, either - only a month. Also, he prefers to hang out near where there are plants at the bottom of the tank, so he has a little cover.

He took to pellets after maybe a week of feeding them after a fasting day, and soaking them in thawing bloodworm cubes. But his favorites are definitely the fish and krill, or live earthworms.

Would a 20" ray be able to eat a 5" Moke? They are not girthy like the Dels, more narrow bodied like a Teug. Him at 6" is a totally different shape than my Delhezi at 6".

I just got a 4" Palmas Polli from Wet Spot and that little guy is ALWAYS visible and he's only been in the tank for not even 48 hours. If you dont' want a hiding poly, you might choose a different one to assure you see them, like a Senegal or Palmas Polli or even a Delhezi. All three of those are known to be a bit more active. I also read about Ornates being active.
