Just wondering the best ph to keep my monoculus juvies in? my tanks currently sits at 7.5-7.8. Is this ok? it does get acidic fairly quickly but i try to buffer this. Cheers guys.

I keep mine at 7 to 6.5. If you want to lower PH, Just drop a piece of drift wood in.

mines sitting between 6.5-7 too.. i noticed them colour up alot more once i did this..

Where did you get them?

Where are they from prior to that?

Are they Wild?

What was the Parameters of the LFS you are getting them from?

If You already have them... how are they in your current water so far?

And how long have you had them?

Keep all Cichla right around 7.0...pH is really not important as long as extremes are avoided. Concentrate your efforts more on keeping ammonia and other nitrogen-based metabolites to a minimum through frequent and large water changes.

tongue33. I live in australia so there is no such thing as wild caught here. It is illegal to keep grey listed fish such as the cichla sp. So they are very hard to find through an fish shop. Trading of these fish is relied on through private purchase. Anyway ive had the fish for about a month. But i gotta say when i got them they were tiny. Like 2cm- 3cm. They have grown to about just over an inch or so now. They seem to be ok in the current water but i still wanted to be sure.

Haynchinook. I already have a**** load of drift wood in my tank. Like i have no rocks only driftwood. this is the tank please excuse the pic quality.

brian scott, cheers man. :)

yeh dude.. i love cichla lol..
how many you got now? awesome setup too :D

Ha ha, thanks man. I picked up 15 juvies about a month ago. I had em in my big tank but didnt realise for a few days that the 2 bigger ones were eating the smallers ones. Just a mistake on my part. I ended up with 10 and lost 5 within a week due to what im assuming was sulphur poisening. My mates still has 17 of there brothers and sisters though. Im pretty keen for these guys to grow and get some colour, they so awesome even when small!!
