Monster 822 gallon (ext) aquarium build thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I may make a suggestion that I believe could make this incredible tank even better would be to go to Michael's craft store or check your local craft store for fake plants. They are relatively inexpensive for the size and natural look that you get. Personally they look way better then all of the normal pet store plastic plants. I spent about 40 buck on stocking my 240 gallon with some really nice looking decor. If there is nothing like that around you, Michaels does have a website.

Man, you are dropping some coin...everything is top notch. Where did you get those lights?

Looks like the air pump is blowing pretty good. Is it louder than the reeflo dart pump? Would you recommend it (the air pump) to a lunatic who has tank similar to yours?
Yes, I made a lot of my purchases while I was waiting for the tank to arrive. I had time to sit down and research items and ask a million question about itmes I wanted to have. So becasue it took so long for the tank to actually show up, it gave me time to buy things one at a time while not really breaking the bank trying to get it all at once.
So on that note waiting for the tanlk was a plus.
As for the air pump, I would not say its silent, but quiet would be a better word. In fact its so strong, you hear the air bubbles from the top of the tank over the pump itself.
I can't even hear the dart pump, its nice. What i hear from my system is the water moving into the over flow and the bubbles from the airpump. So there is sound but not annoying loud noise all over the house, however once I get some panels around this setup I don't think I will hear much of anything.
Yes I would recommend the pump to anyone, seems to be constructed well and is very strong, so far so good. There was a smaller one that the guy said was even quieter that could push two of those airstone with just as much force, but I opted to go one step higher for three airstones since the tank is ten feet long to really get good circulation in the whole tank, plus it was on sale at the time. Not to mention I have the airpump on a three way valve to reduce the pressure if needed or if I just want to run two instead of three, pretty neet system.

Now that is a nice look with the plants, I will find out where the nearest michaels is and see what they have. That would be a nice balance for the wife who wants a plant or two. lol

I vote against fake plants because they look just...hm...fake (go figure lol)

If it was my setup I would go for something like this:

[YT]7a8orxoa3qc&feature=BFa&list=FLe92FVZUppYCrsuaHF8eOJQ&lf[/YT]

If you do want more color just attach some anubia to the driftwood (like I did).

Nomad you and I are on the same page, tha'st actually the look I invision fish too (rays). lol I will have to see the anubia you speak of, if its some type of plant life, it may be the way to go. Have to keep the misses happay as well, I am sure you can relate you seem to have a beautiful significant other that supports your hobby as well.
Thanks

Ditch the fake plants and get one big piece of driftwood...or a couple large ones. The decor looks too forced...it doesnt fit right. The background is awesome and everything else needs to blend a bit more. Amazing setup...but the decor needs a bit of work.

Yes, I have since cleared the tank of the decor, and have more drift wood soaking, with some other smaller rocks. I have some time while the tank is cycling before I redo the decor. I was not totally sold on the look myself.:irked:

What Duggan suggests is great, it's a fake plant that looks real! I have one in my aquarium they are called fancy plants, Giant bamboo 8$ in Amazon.
Try and have a lookOn your tank I would remove the rocks and get some which are the same and round. Try and play with the driftwood a bit more too.

I have taken the big rock in the center out and the pieces of wood in there. They where all free or from anohter tank. I have found some new drift wood locally and have it soaking in the pool as we speak. I will still look at the anubia live plant and the ones at Michael's

dude your tank looked awsome the way it was
