Heres a pic of the SC state record flathead caught last year. Not me, I just remember reading the story. 79.4 lbs 51 inches long
Now thats a nice flathead. My buddy found one floating in lake Mi this spring that was longer then he was tall he was about 5'8" and its tail was curled over on the ground holding it even to his shoulders. Rummer has it that they stopped diving in the river because there was flatheads down there that could swollow them. Funny but werid thing is the cut the diving thing after this was said so I think its not a rummer but plausible.

Funny the state record for flathead is 47 pounds 8 ounces. Which wouldn't be close to what you are talking about. You should go catch that 6 footer but you better do it on 6lb test if you're a real man.

Any 30 lbs fish caught on 7lb line is a good catch. Well done and Nice fish.

yeah I am really suprised no one has beat that state record. There is lots of 40-45 pounders caught in my area each yr.

Nice catch Rev! Let me know next time you're at the Katy store & maybe we can meet for lunch. Its right down I-10 from my office. If you dont mind me asking, where on the bayou were you? Under one of the bridges or at Tinsley Park or what?

Lol I haven't been to the Katy store in years. One of our other techs handles Bass Pro. It's his full time job. He goes to Katy and then Pearland everyday. As much as I would love to do basspro. . .my "board" (clients) is mostly discus and our handful of MFKer tanks. Unfortunately I'm never anywhere near Katy. All of my clients are inside the loop or in the CL/Galveston area.

Our new facility is damned near next door to the big BassPro in Pearland so I do get to slip in there from time to time and play a little bluegill toss.:naughty:

SLING! CHOMP!

Sucks though. . .you can't really see too much of the action unless your down below watching thru the viewpanel.

--------

I caught him directly underneath I-45 in downtown. Kinda by Downtown Aquarium. I park in the lot @ tinsley and then walk up to the stepping stones. Catch mullet. Chop mullet. and then proceed to the first kayak landing on that side of the bayou past the stepping stones. If you don't know what I'm talking about you will if you go down there lol.

I live in Houston, too and have always wanted to catch a good sized flathead (or even cooler, a really small one that could be put in an aquarium). Is Buffalo Bayou a good place to try, or do you think this fish was kind of a fluke? Congrats on the awesome catch by the way!
