  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
WE have BIG carp in Michigan as well I accidentally caught a huge one bass fishing the other day luckily I had 12 pound test on my reel or I would have lost my tube bait LOL My cousin improperly netted the fish bu lifting the net straight out in front of himself instead of pulling it up hand over hand. This gave him a hernia I would guess this carp was 40 to 50 lbs easy I will upload a pick when I can

 I Know the feeling I did my back in lifting a 30+ out for a mate one night he told me he thought it was a small fish (they don’t fight so hard in the colder months) I went to lift it out and nearly fell in pulled all my mussels in my lower back. Who said I don’t live my life on the edge. Carp fishing is a dangers sport. Would love to see the picture! Was it a mirror or a common? If any one has any carp pictures please put them on the thread love see carp from all over the world. I am very interested in any American fish I really think this is a huge untapped carp water. Just up loaded this picture this is a better one of the 40.

Stotty in Australia Carp are considered a vermin like you stated.

We get big carp here too and they look exactly the same, but if you catch them here it is ILLEGAL to release them back. They have to be killed (humanely).

Carp taste like mud and are not rated at all in Australia, in fact if anyone found out you eat carp you would be the laughing stock between friends.

I would like a good recipe for Carp, they are an awesome fighting fish! Do you fish the surface of have weighted baits to fish from the bottom?

I have used corn with not much success but i have hardly been carp fishing.

My wife gave my camera to my brother in law to use but I will upload them as soon as I get it back. I think it is a common but I mainly fish for bass and PIKE:drool: so I do not know for sure. If you ever want to plan a MI fishing trip let me know I work for a Giant hotel chain and could get you a great rate on a room and take you to my secret spots ;)

Here in Brazil we eat carp... And it's GOOD. When you catch a big one, you gotta keep it in a tank or pool with NO sand/mud in the substrate, or in a net cage. When they clean up their digestive tract, the muddy taste is all gone. You can then kill the carp and let it "marinate" in lemon juice overnight on the fridge to be prepared the other day. Yummy... :grinyes:

Best regards.

Daniel.

OR you could buy some yellow fin tuna and save yourself two days of work for good tasting fish LOL  J/K man It sounds like it might be OK the way you prepare it I would give it a try if it was in front of me;)

nice, ive got two of them coming for my pond 18" ones they are both of them for £5 ($10)

Try using (Maze, Chick Peas, peanuts etc.), These are either soaked or and boiled to make them softer. Sweeteners, Color and Flavorings can be added. The fight on a large carp is great go down there have a go and sneak the little fella back in :grinyes:
