Monster Carp

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stotty in Australia Carp are considered a vermin like you stated.

We get big carp here too and they look exactly the same, but if you catch them here it is ILLEGAL to release them back. They have to be killed (humanely).

Carp taste like mud and are not rated at all in Australia, in fact if anyone found out you eat carp you would be the laughing stock between friends.

I would like a good recipe for Carp, they are an awesome fighting fish! Do you fish the surface of have weighted baits to fish from the bottom?

I have used corn with not much success but i have hardly been carp fishing.

Have you tried bread as bait Hasi? I've caught most of mine on it.

Agree with you about their eating qualities - Yuk!!
Although we are abit spoiled in terms of the quality of eating fish we have over here, barramundi, bream, snappers whiting etc.

Lately, alot of anglers have been catching carp on fly. They stalk the shallows, and when they see the carp, land a little nympth a couple foot in front. The fight on a 4 weight can be electrifying!

Heres a good recipe for you. Take a small carp, marinade it in garlic, chilli and ginger, then boil it for two hours with a house brick. Drain, take the carp out and chuck it into the garden for fertiliser or cat food (probaly poisen the cat), then eat the house brick.

Thats is funny I have always heard that carp dont taste very good.

Pike fight good different than most sport fish. It is kind of like reeling in a freight train on the bottom of the lake then they get tired let you get them close and make another run LOL eventually if your lucky and are using a steal leader so their teeth do not cut your line you will get them in. It is pretty much the exact opposite of a bass which will be flying out of the water for most of the fight.

:iagree: But i do a lot of my pike fishing in the winter (Carp for summer Pike for winter:D ) The summer pike put up a mutch better fite than winter. They jump clean out the water when you hook them:thumbsup: and yes you must have a leader as the teeth cut clean through the line.

That’s good we use bog biscuits run a saw blade down them make a groove glue them with super glue on the back of a hook throw out a few freebees then wham works really well we flavour the biscuits in plastic bags over night to soften them up. But use a solid one on the hook. We us Chum mixers or Winallot .

Great advice Timpon!

Hahaha love the recipe :grinyes:

Awesome fighting fish on light tackle and the only fish you can actually see and catch! Apart from live mullet for bait...

We do have awesome table fish i just wish there was more whiting around these days as i absolute love whiting. Whiting and Flathead anyday!
