Monster common goldfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So far, only Bruce I believe is the largest fancy goldfish recorded. Others are barely 12" but still large enough. There is a difference though. With singletails, they tend to be more elongated whereas fancies go by bulk usually.

Wow, those are some massive commons.

When I helped my dad clean out his pond, we netted out all the fish, and the largest of the commons was about 10 inches long, and girthy enough to fill my whole hand.

I've never heard of goldfish getting bigger than a foot, but i assume that, under proper conditions (aka a mud-bottom pond), it's very possible that a few individuals could reach the size you describe.

It is hard for me to even guess the "volume" of my farm pond. It has numerous natural spring feeds and is around 150' across and was dreged to 15' deep. Every (20 - 24) one of the 600 or so small feeders that I threw in for my LMB to chow on several years ago are WAY over a foot long. My 2 remaining LMB (The ones the neighborhood kids have not stolen) are gigantic 4 - 5 pounders and would not hesitate to munch a 12" goldie, but can't even scare these in a swim by anymore.

The rotten blue heron however has no problem eating them and leaving just a giant goldfish head by the edge of the pond. If it were not a $10,000 fine for killing them. . . .:irked:

world record for a gold fish was 24 inches I believe. I saw some HUGE ones at a pond near my house where people go to throw their fish away. im talking big and there were tons of large ones coming up to the shore. a guide at the park said a guy caught one 3 feet long. I can believe that cause that was a very large blotch of orange swimming around
