Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true; thanks for responding so fast so my anxiety can subside. :)

I agree, that was a lucky score. Hope it works out for you on that tank, maybe update this thread at some point? For me, the search continues.

As long as the OP is fine with me thread jacking, I can post updates here.

I just got the 210 running with the Hayward DE filter. It goes from the two 1-1/4” drains to a 250 micron spindown filter, to the first pump, then to the DE filter, to the 90 gallon sump and finally back to the tank. It’s early but so far the results have been great!

I remember when I ran one of my old vortex diatomaceous earth filters and really enjoyed the absolute crystal clear water

I am looking forwards to your feed back on the Hayward EC40 after you have run it for a while!

I would also like to know how the spindown filter works for you? If it works well for you I might add one to my too!

P.S. I love the arch support!

When setting this up, I messed up and used DE Earth Food grade. This clogged everything up and although I cleaned it out, there were/are still traces of it in the sump. Initially, I had to manually clean the spin down filter element every 30 minutes, then to every few hours. I cleaned it last night around 9pm and it still has not clogged. I did buy a Lasco TwistIIclean spin down in hopes of quicker maintenance. I do believe the spin down filter has achieved its intended purpose of prefiltering before the EC40. The PSI has remained steady between 1-2 PSI. I will definitely update in a few weeks regarding the maintenance but so far, the water has been crystal clear! What I did find that is necessary with a two pump system, especially with the spin down filter, is an emergency overflow.

I included a picture of the stand when I was setting it up. I’m in the process of finishing the panels. Thank you for your efforts! Without your thread, I would of never tried this filter.

Is cleaning the spin down filter as easy as just opening the valve for a minute? Or do you have to open it up? Please let me know how the Lasco twin spin down filter works... I really like this idea!

I am happy to hear you have found this thread helpful! I appreciate you adding your experiences to the thread!

P.S. I just looked up the Lasco twin spin down filter. Very cool! I like that is has a reverse flow flush mode!!!!

I’ve had to open it up and spray wash it. Merely opening the valve is good for uneaten food and detritus but I think the spin down is getting clogged with left over Earth DE because the time in between cleanings is increasing! I hope with the Lasco, I can just reverse the flow and wash out the fine particulates instead of opening it up.

I finally finished the primary setup on my new dirt bottom planted 180g tank about 5 weeks ago. Of course the Hayward EC40 DE filter is an integral part of the filtration system:

the first time I turned the sump pump on the EC40 plugged significantly in a couple of hours. But in this time the tank want from a stirred up mud puddle to very clear water. Now, about 5 weeks later I regen (pump the handle) about 1 time a day to keep the flow up. I am sure this will get better when I add some prefiltering in the sump. Right now the EC40 is the only filtration on the tank. I have not changed the initial charge of DE powder yet.
