Monster fish for a 75g!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm starting to think a midas should have something larger than a 48x18" footprint tank for life. My monster seems cramped in his 75g :(

My vote is for a male Midas. Just as naughty as a Red Devil but they come in many more interesting color varieties. My favorite is the orange and white with blue eyes.

Personally, I would spend a lot of time searching for a young Jag that has a nice pattern on its body or picking one out of a bunch of fry, that stands out (is the dominant one of the litter). I find jags to be a much more attractive display beast than any other cichlid that would work in a 75. But that's just me. They are extremely intelligent and have great personalities, but aren't as lazy as fish like oscars. Also their patterns and the purple/bluish sheen of their scales are very very attractive especially when coupled with a black background and dark substrate. Check out Jumbo for an example.

A male jag gets too big for a 75, IMO.

Any of the Vieja won't have the aggression the others have. I'm not sure about personality, but the most aggressive of them is the Black Belt. I would get a male Carpintis or Texas cichlid.
