MONSTER fish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Doesn't matter how well filtered that tank is, the poor things hardly have any room to move. They're all bumping into each other. The collection is impressive, but the care- not so much.
No one is bashing. Only a few people have expressed they didn't care for the tank or this style of tank.
That's not bashing?

I think I was the first who mentioned the term "JDM" in this thread so perhaps the rant was directed at me.My apologies for making a comment while not having a thousand plus gallon tank.

jdm fishtanks aren't for every one, but MFK was founded by fish keepers with monster fish and monster tanks the majority of which were jdm style.

Here's one of Li's threads:

Here's an MFK member with mega monster tanks

It was thrilling to watch John build a second 5,000 tank next to his first 5,000 gallon tank. We watched with baited breath when the wall between the two tanks was knocked out, creating a 10,000 gallon tank.

I first saw Jack's tank some place here on MFK

MFK member Ted has big tanks. Here is his thread on building monster tanks

I like his 8,000 gallon tank. Most of the inhabitants are rescues from people who had no business getting fish that would get large. Ted accepted everyone's throw aways.

I wonder how many people doing the bashing on this thread have tanks greater than 1,000 gallons? Are the newer MFK members with their small tanks just more enlightened than the the old timers who shared so freely in the past, but who have absented themselves from MFK in recent years? When did the tide change so drastically?

JDM is not my personal preference, but you will never find me putting down some one else's tank. You point your finger at someone, and you have three pointing back at you. To each his own, I guess. The prevailing hypercritical spirit on MFK is what is keeping some of the best contributors away. Do people really think that putting down someone else's tank scores points with everyone else on MFK?

I think you ranting for no reason in a thread is one of the reasons the best contributors stay away.

No it's an honest, and obvious, observation. The fish are simply jammed into tank without much room to move about and you can't argue that.

Bashing would be name calling and trash talking, none of which has happened.

My issue with this JDM style is that its just dangerous/irresponsible... I wonder how long the system can be off before things start dying. It'd be like jamming so many air breathing animals into an enclosure so that they would start to die if a blower got turned off for a few minutes. Or leaving a dog in a car during the summer which is illegal.. because its just a very small threshold for disaster. This is very similar.

I don't think anybody is Bashing, this type of tank used to be very popular but the hobby has evolved and more people think what is best for the fish not just can they keep it alive. Which is a massive benefit to the hobby and websites such as MFK have helped bring this change around. With out this change the Hobby is at risk of having laws imposed on it so it must be better to moderate our self's then have somebody else do it.

oh and i am not slagging the people pacu mom mentioned they inspired many people shown what some of these fish looked like full grown and taught many people about filtration, construction and how to make sure there fish survived.
