great suggestion, do you have any reference to a reliably weighed specimen for me to add to the list?

All ive found is this where the largest specimen captured by rod and reel was 77kg so it doesnt fit on this list then.

But i did find this one to of an zungaro jahu

That Jahu looks huge! Looks easily reliable to be over 100kg. Thanks!

Heres another giant catfish species.

The Fishing World Records website is a great resource in this regard but they allow quite serious lapses in the fish ID, so one must be careful and verify the fish ID with experts before jumping on it.

For instance, their "Zungaro jahu" entry features infact a piraiba Brachyplatystoma filamentosum. Pretty obvious to a slightly trained eye. A gross error on the website part. But overall, the website is invaluable to us, MFKers, I think.

...

I too think that it would be beneficial to include links to websites and references to published literature (articles, books, etc.) for each entry, multiple if needed. That would kick up the value of the rating a few notches in the least, otherwise, it will remain a subjective "unverifiable" rating. But it is a lot more work and easy for me to suggest.

Much agreed, for me the fwr is also a good resource but I prefer more reliable or verified weights.
One great example is seen with the arapaima record by igfa, they actually retracted their previously accepted record of 416lbs (caught by a flyfisherman) and went back to jakub vagners old record of 339lbs as the photos of the 416lbs looked too doubtful to be accurate.

Murray cod
Maccullochella peelii
gets over 100kg

Thanks for the good lead! A quick search says the record is 113kg but from a fish caught is 1902.

Picture is probably of another fish caught almost a century ago.

I will now update the list.
