I've been M.I.A. for a while with some health problems. Probably a lot of new guys who don't know me and what I do since the last time I was here. Check the sig line.

The good news is everything has been the same old same old in the big tank. I haven't been able to keep up with water changes as much as I like to. But the mangroves are still around and still keeping the nitrates at bay. I lost a female loiselli to a blockage. I cut her open and found shrimp shell as the culprit. Ever since, I've only given peeled shrimp as part of their feeding.

Everything else has gone swimmingly. No murders, no nuisance aggression to speak of. The dovii I got well over a year ago is over a foot now. I still have four or five fry alive from spawns almost two years ago. These fry have survived in the big tank from being hatched as eggs by the parents to nearly four inches long. They've grown very slowly due to being terrified to come out and eat, lol. They're just now starting to show some confidence and will come out of hiding to eat sinking pellets, shrimp, or fish filets. Whatever floats to the bottom.

Breeding has pretty much ceased. This is totally my fault and due to not keeping up on proper feeding and water changing schedules due to afore mentioned health problems. I've been lucky I haven't lost any fish other than the blocked up loiselli. I'm getting better physically and trying to get back on a better, more regular schedule.

I'll get some pics up later.

***EDITED TO ADD***
For the new guys, this tank has been up and running for way over two years. Most of these fishes have been together way more than three years starting in a 190g. I have five male/female pairs that have all bred in the past, sometimes all having fry at the same time. All fishes are full grown adults, with the exception of the now 13" male dovii who still has some growing to do. And to think most everybody said this set up wouldn't last two weeks.

I hope you Polish up soon Terd. Sounds like you used to raise a hell of a stink here.

hey man good to here from ya.
btw, MFK is broken so you have to use photo bucket to post pics.

Glad to hear you're still doing well. I'll be looking forward to some pictures soon.

Good to see Ya round and hear that all is well now! That is a wicked tank You have!

Thanks fellers!

Here's a couple of pics I took a few days ago. More after the water change I'm doing right now...

Parachromis sp. "la ceiba yellowhead"

Parachromis (probably loiselli), about 3", one of the 5 or so juveniles hatched from eggs in the big tank surviving long term, well over a year old (probably closer to two) from a long ago spawn. Five out of 25,000 or so fry. Lucky fellows for sure.

Here's a couple I pulled out of the sump a few months ago. They were probably in the sump for a year or so, since they were tiny fry.
Parachromis managuense and Parachromis loiselli or motaguense or maybe even loiselli x motaguense (more than one pair has swapped mates over time)? There's another one in the sump right now I've been trying to catch without success.

And not yet in the big tank (still healing in the hospital tank), but soon. A true monster managuense given to me in near death condition by a local fish store owner. When I got him, he was laying on his side at the bottom of the tank with HITH, pop eye, beat up, and refusing to eat. He knew I was his best shot at survival. Easily 15"++, I've had him a month, now he will only eat by me placing food in his mouth. Nothing at all wrong with his apetite, he eats tons. But only from my hand, lol.

Awww man I am glad that you are feeling better, and I really liked your pics and that story of the jag was awesome I am glad you are giving him a second chance at life , that setup must look amazing with your stock!

Thanks Cakilla. Here's a couple from January...

Parachromis dovii, male, almost 12" in this pic. In january, I'd had him for a year from about 4 1/2". He has an awesome personality, very curious. Easily the smartest and most "wild" of all his tankmates.

Same Parachromis sp. "la ceiba yellowhead" from before, also in January. He's in his house, a strawberry pot. Then, maybe 8". Now, over 9". Second only to the dovii in the most "wild" category. Not as smart as the dovii, but almost.

These two are the main characters in the tank. Everybody (single or pair) has their own little house. The dovii considers the entire tank his house. And not in a bad way. He has this kind of quiet confidence about him. He easily has the largest apetite, more so than the bigger Oscars even. He is much more predatory when it comes to food than anyone else. When you feed them, you can see him thinking. It's a trip!

Good save with the managuense. That is cool that he'll only eat from you hand. You have some beautiful fish. Can we get a full tank shot?
