hey this is just an idea, but would this work?

U shaped design, at each tip of the U the depth would be about a foot, 7 sections, drop off between sections, deepest section would be where the U meets in the center at about 12 feet deep. i figure with the whole pond filled up it would hold about 42900 gallons. I have a design if anyone wants to see it, i will put it on if i can figure out how to do that.

Decor would include:
Driftwood
Lava Rock
Sunken structures
anything suggestions?

Fish:
Plecostomus (common and bristlenose)
Freshwater Drum
Green Sunfish
bala sharks
Red Devil Cichlid
Pangasius Catfish
Crappie (Black and White)
Bullhead Catfish (Yellow, Brown, and Black)
Common Carp
Koi
Goldfish
any suggestions?

Maybe put in a Few turtles too like:
Softshell
Alligator Snapping
Red eared slider
Painted

Food fish would be raised on site mostly. Food that would be brought from elsewhere would be inspected before fiving it to the fish.

i would also tell people that if they had fish that outgrew their home aquariums and they called in advance that i might be able to take them. They would get a discount on seeing the tank if i can make it a business. Any suggestions?

Also i am only 17 right now, so this would not be even close to possible in another 10+ years.

If you are looking for indoor then I have 1 word for you....

Dehumidifier!!!!!...... Lots of them..

Adding that much water to your house would raise the humidity level in your house drastically....

Other than that sounds like a great idea..

yea my design is too big to be in a normal sized house. it would have to be a building of itself. with a lot of dehumidifiers spread around the building.

ok take out the alligator snappers. i already have a pleco for this. hopefully if it survives another 10 years, i might put him in as one of the first fish. he is only about a year old and is already a good and fat 8 and a half inches long. what kind of sturgeon could i put in there, legally?

I'm kinda stumped at how you would make a 12' deep "indoor" pond. You would never see the fish. You kinda sound like me, I make a ton of plans that I know I cant do for a few years, then come up with something new few weeks later.

yea you are just like me. ive got a whole notebook full of ideas that would be cool but most of them are WAY to big. for all of the plans ive almost planned them each out to the smallest detail. ive planned everything except the size of filter that i would use. which for most of my plans would be the size of zoo's. for this one i would probably need to dig the hole for the pond first then cover it up and build around it.

That is exactly like me, I have a huge graphing notebook full of things to build, but I dont have the resources or space to build them. The crazy thing is, my parents are thinking of building me a fish house about 10'x10'.:screwy: They hate having my fish in the house.

yea. my parents said that if i would take care of my fish completely then i could get another tank. so i got a 30 gallon and we took down our 5 gallon bc it got ich. but now a 30 is the largest they will allow in the house. but this plan is for a long time from now. what do you think? any advice or suggestions on any part of it is always appreciated.

Start small.. Same foot print just an even 3' throughout, as was stated at 12' how are you gonna view the fish, and if you put in glass it would have to be close to 2" thick (BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).

Love the idea, and it would look great in any house, but reality must set in and bring our sights down to a realistic level. I started with 2 10g tanks then I was a teenager, now I have a 20H, 55, 75, and a 240 on the workbench.

Just have fun with the hobby, and let it naturally evolve.

Thats how I started out, now I have a 5, 10, 20H, 29 and a 125. This is after 7 years in the hobby. Now I buy most of the fish and tanks with my own money. If you really want an indoor pond, start with something around 8' x 4' x 2'. I'm all for going big, but you will gain some valuable expierience building the smaller one.
