Whats up with you guys .This is monsterfishkeepers why no monster marine tanks? Its pathetic I have seen bigger tank on nano reefs.com.Am I the only one who wants to see my fish grow to there adult size.

It depends what you consider to be monster? Saltwater aquariums are fairly expensive to set up, so not everyone can afford to set up a "monster aquarium". There are members on here that do have large aquariums for there fish. I have my 300 gallon aquarium on the way to house my 2 Brown Banded Bamboo Sharks, along with other tropical fish. Not sure if you would consider that monster though. If you do have any monster aquariums, post them up.

That is a pretty relative question because in my opinion a real monster s.w. fish is something like a whale shark or a sunfish. Most of the monster salties aren't even imported let alone kept in tanks. I have a 180 gallon reef that only has 4 fish it has a 3 inch long six line, a 9 inch long tang, and a pair of mandrin. At one point the only fish I had at all was the six line one of my reefer friends told me that he was going to drown me in there if I didn't add some.
Anyway just thought that last bit was funny .

I guess if someone were to ask me I would say that anything over 120 gallons would be a monster fishtank, and any fish 2' feet and longer would be a monster fish.

i dont know but where seting up a 240 gallon shark tank at my work

Bull**** post bru. Why should it be more expensive to set up.My only consern would be the cost of salt for water changes. Most guys here in Cape Town get our water for free from the Two Oceans Aqurium.I have a 1000 L setup .I am planning a 10 foot set up because most of my fish are in the 6-8 inch range now.Are there no guys running large salt tanks on this board.

Its not the fact that Saltwater alone is expensive. Buying and setting up any large "monster" aquarium is expensive. The 300 gallon aquarium I am getting made with a stand and canopy is going to cost me $4,000 cdn roughly. And thats not including filteration which will run me $1,000 +. Oh and then theres the fish which will be in the hundreds. So by the time I am down the whole project will have costed me close to if not $6,000. I dont know about you but thats alot of money, and lots of people do not have that kind of money to spend on hobbies.

My wife has me on a limited budget, for some reason my fish come last on the list.I agree that the tank is a big outlay .Filtration will be DIY basically a big sump filled with bio-balls then onto a sump filled with culuerpa .Will run 150w metal halides 24 hours over culuerpa.Filtration should not cost me much.
