do they survive brackish?
No, they need fresh well oxygenated water, preferably a bit on the cool side.

I tried keeping one in a 55gal, and the pleco killed it- I reccomend a species tank

alos for more infop, look up axlotl

Plecos usually need around a 72-80F temps. The mudpuppies need to be in lower temps around 65-74F. Small zone to keep them in. Also they are very soft skinned, and the pleco's odontodes will cut right through the sides. Definitely don't keep them together in a tank that small.

i want a hell bender u know anywhere i can get one

or maby the japanese giant salamander
a 6 foot monster maby 5 dont remeber

Coldwater fish only, and nothing that is a known fin nipper, as the gills stay external the entire life. I Highly recommend it though, they are some of the best pets, and very easy to take care of. I kept mine with koi, and a big pleco that couldn't fit in the mudpuppies cave. The mudpuppy would chase the koi around the tank every once and a while. It was even funnier by the fact that the biggest koi was around 14", and he would do this when he was only 10".

I do not recommend keeping them with fish, they will eat any that they can catch

I have never seen hellbenders for sale and the giant salamanders are highly protected, even most zoos can't get one.

isnt that that one thing that likes to be in mud, but also likes the water, and also can stay on land for quite a while? lol

No that would be a very young homo sapien...J/k Mudpuppies do not do well at all out of the water.
