Monster PBs caught in 2007

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Big week the past week was. Sold hundreds of my tank bred and raised fish and refilled my tanks with loads of new fish, mostly angels and capped it with this monster catch.

Also hooked up with a bigger fish but it managed to snag my lure in something underwater and had to cut the line on one of my tackles. Went on to fish another spot and beached this male. It's much bigger than the 17 inch PB in one of tanks. I'd say three times bigger. It's longer at 20 inch plus, wider, and taller too.

Monster # 15 checks in at 18+ inches and female caught with a sinking Mirrolure with Red Hooks.

This could be the companion of # 14. They were caught in the same hole on different days.

Caught Monster # 15 yesterday from a total of 56 catches so far this year. More than half-way to 110 and almost halfway to 31 monster sized fish.

Spent today rigging up and buying stuff I would need to complete this year's goal.:nilly: :D

In the mean time here's a link to the related thread of catches that didn't quite make it to this thread due to the catch being less than 17 inch.

Catches that were less than monster size

Just realized I'm way behind last years track.

Last year I had 81 at around this time. Just 64 this year.:(

Did I read what you said right? They introduced them to remove other invasive species? I was always curious why they would introduce a aggresive species like the Peacock in the U.S. I was under the impression they did it for sport fisherman not to remove invasive species, seems to me they would wreck local fauna too! I have only a passing interest in them at this point because I have not the funds to keep them though I do love the coloration on them, what is the largest one ever caught on record?

Yes, they were introduced to manage other invasive species. It does not seem to be working too well, though. At least in our community lake, it's not working. You will still see Tilapia, Mayan Cichlids, and other invasive cichlids in growing numbers in spite of the growing population of Peacock Bass. This phenomena is probably due to the huge network of interconnected waterways that allows the growing population of fish, both native and invasive. I'm beginning to see growing numbers of Pacus, too. In past years I was seeing Pacus alone or sometimes in twos. Just last week I saw a group of 5 Pacus all of which were at least 2 feet in length. A native fish, the Gar is not doing badly either. The most I've seen before were 3 in an area of the Lake. Recently I've seen 8 of them seeking shelter from the noon day Sun under the branches of a tree overhanging over the lake.:)

Biggest one caught in Florida is over 10 pounds. World record is over 20 pounds.

Here's a pic of the Pacus
