Finally landed # 25 monster sized Peacock Bass today. It's the one that got away yesterday and took my Glass Shad Rap. Probably the same one that did the exact same thing two weeks ago.
Spotted it around 8:45 am today guarding and patrolling, minus the lure it took yesterday, around a concrete filled five gallon bucket holding the buoys at Wild Lime Beach, as in yesterday. Hooked it on first cast with my sinking Mirrolure but it got off just before I could land it and disappeared. It took a long time before it came back. While waiting for it, I hooked and landed it's 15 inch mate. After I released the female, the male came back and hovered over their love nest. Was no longer interested in the Mirrolure so I switched to another sinking lure, a Hurricane Livewire rattlebait. Caught it again and landed it this time.
Took it's picture. No problems so far. However when I tried to hold it down to remove the hooks it flipped up and down. It landed back on the sand minus the lure and its hooks. Cool trick right? But where did the lure go?
Felt my left hand tingle, and when I looked down, saw the lure hanging from the back of my hand. Hook went through the skin and went out a half inch to the right.
Here's a couple of the pics, the pic of the female is in my latest catches thread in the fishing section.
Here's the fish with the hook in my hand.
