Monster skate caught off Miami

Well it wasn't a hard impact. She slowly fell back like coming down from doing a sit up. The momentum of her weight had already been distributed to her and the ground when she landed on her tush. Then she just slowly laid back and hit me on accident

Well that sounds better.I imagined you stretched out like a K.O.games victim.

Good to hear they released it alive, however the handling techniques used in the photos have a lot to be desired. I doubt it would survive after being handled like that.

that was my first thought too. Thats why Large research Tag fish are neevr out of they water or is lift with full body support.

Did she look like a tube of biscuits after you whack it on the counter?

Yeah, wonder if that thing survived capture (if real). Bad job winching it up like that. Large fish can have their organs crush under their own weight when you bring them out of the water, plus the pressure shock of being brought up out of the depth...

Still pretty cool to see, though. I gotta be honest, I at one point considered myself pretty well-versed with the species of fish found around the East Coast of the US and I've never heard of this species, so that makes it even cooler to see... the ocean is pretty amazing.

it's mark the shark! apparently he's got a pretty big reputation.

When I saw the pic, I shook my head.
That guy makes a living off spreading bad info and killing sharks for sport/profit.

Even if he did release it alive, it's dead now.

Sad day for fish.
