Monster skate caught off Miami

When I saw the pic, I shook my head.
That guy makes a living off spreading bad info and killing sharks for sport/profit.

Even if he did release it alive, it's dead now.

Sad day for fish.

I thought he was in your neck of the woods. You'll have to let us know if the carcass resurfaces.

I was trying to figure out if this was during a charter or him free fishing on his own (I was wondering about the people onboard). Apparently he was out filming a show when they snagged it.

It's sad to see all those shark jaws in those photos, shame something can't be done about people like him.

I agree. I absolutely hate Shark hunters. I just hate them. Sustainable harvest is one thing. Indiscriminately killing a species because you dont think they deserve to live is another entirely and I wish they'd all just catch a bullet with their heads.
Sorry, but that's just how I feel.

In FL, all Hammerhead species are now protected (as are tiger sharks and many other popular 'sport fishing' sharks). You must release them as quickly as possible and cannot kill / take them. Posing for a picture of a bloody animal isn't releasing it as quickly as possible. Hanging them by tail or head is going to kill them. The local 'shark fishing club' is also taking a lot of flak for pics of members with protected sharks not being released right away. The only thing killing sharks in the wild is man.

When Mark was in the hot seat for the hammerhead with Rosie O'Donnell awhile back, his comment to the press was something to the tune that he is 'Only one guy with one rod and reel and only kills one shark a week'. He claims he is not hurting the population. In reality he is a guy who takes out thousands of people out with the goal of catching/killing sharks with more fishing gear than your local bait shop. When you look at his website and media, it paints a picture of a guy who catches and kills as many as he can. One of the two is a lie. It can't be both ways.

Matt, what do you think about a social media campaign exposing his practices since he seems to be doing whatever he wants despite the authorities and the protected status of some of the sharks he kills?

People have tried. He seems to love the negative attention. He lives like an adult version of a school bully. He's all big and tough until authority rolls in, then it's all whistles, smiles and spinning thumbs.
